An old castle town largely unspoiled during World War II, Kanazawa features well-preserved architecture spread across a range of districts.
Explore Kanazawa's surroundings by going to Gokayama (in Nanto), Shirakawa-mura (Gassho Zukuri Minka-en & The Historic Villages of Shirakawa-go Traditional Houses in the Gassho Style) and Chirihama Nagisa Driveway (in Hakui). There's still lots to do: admire the natural beauty at Kenrokuen Garden, step into the grandiose world of Kanazawa Castle, explore the world behind art at 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art, Kanazawa, and shop like a local with Omicho Market.

You can take a train from Tokyo to Kanazawa in 2.5 hours. Alternatively, you can do a combination of flight, taxi, and train; or drive. Traveling from Tokyo in June, plan for slightly colder nights in Kanazawa, with lows around 65°F. Cap off your sightseeing on the 14th (Wed) early enough to catch the train to Kyoto.
