Aptly nicknamed the Eternal City, Rome is the birthplace of the Roman Empire, one of the world's greatest civilizations ever.
You'll get in some beach time at Trastevere and Vatican Museums. And it doesn't end there: don't miss a visit to Trevi Fountain, admire the landmark architecture of Pantheon, take in panoramic vistas at Museo Nazionale di Castel Sant'Angelo, and contemplate the long history of St. Peter's Basilica.

Tel Aviv, Israel to Rome is an approximately 7-hour flight. You can also do a combination of flight and train. The time zone changes from Israel Standard Time to Central European Time, which is usually a -1 hour difference. Traveling from Tel Aviv in July, plan for little chillier nights in Rome, with lows around 24°C. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 14th (Sun) so you can travel to Portoferraio.

Portoferraio, Elba Island

Portoferraio is a town and comune in the province of Livorno, on the edge of the eponymous harbour of the island of Elba. Visit Spiaggia Di Sansone and Spiaggia di Capo Bianco for some beach relaxation. Step out of the city life by going to Spiaggia di Cavoli and Spiaggia Della Biodola. Step out of Portoferraio to go to Campo nell'Elba and see Spiaggia di Fetovaia, which is approximately 44 minutes away. There's much more to do: enjoy the sand and surf at Spiaggia di Marina di Campo, get engrossed in the history at Napoleonic Mills House, and steep yourself in history at Villa of San Martino.

Traveling by combination of car and ferry from Rome to Portoferraio takes 4.5 hours. Alternatively, you can do a combination of train and ferry; or do a combination of flight, train, and ferry. When traveling from Rome in July, plan for slightly colder days and about the same nights in Portoferraio: temperatures range from 33°C by day to 24°C at night. Finish your sightseeing early on the 17th (Wed) to allow enough time to drive to Montalcino.
