Aptly nicknamed the Eternal City, Rome is the birthplace of the Roman Empire, one of the world's greatest civilizations ever.
Eschew the tourist crowds and head to Ostia Antica and Chiesa di Sant'Ignazio di Loyola. Vatican Museums and Borghese Gallery will appeal to museum buffs. Take a break from Rome with a short trip to Giardino di Ninfa in Cisterna di Latina, about 1:15 hours away. Next up on the itinerary: appreciate the extensive heritage of Piazza Navona, see the interesting displays at St. Peter's Basilica, take in the spiritual surroundings of Church of St. Louis of the French, and make a trip to Pantheon.

Considered a cultural, artistic, and architectural jewel of Italy, Florence is the birthplace of the Italian Renaissance.
Discover out-of-the-way places like Pitti Palace and Abbazia di San Galgano. Museum-lovers will appreciate Galleria dell'Accademia and San Gimignano 1300. Change things up with a short trip to Centro Storico di Siena in Siena (about 1:10 hours away). Take a break from the city and head to Mountbaldo and Lago di Garda. Museum-lovers will get to explore Vittoriale degli Italiani and Castelvecchio Museum. Venture out of the city with trips to Sirmione (Grotte di Catullo & Castello scaligero) and Borghetto sul Mincio (in Valeggio Sul Mincio). Virtually unchanged for the last six centuries, Venice is actually a group of islands made famous by a series of canals, bridges, monuments, piazzas, and narrow pedestrian lanes.
Get some historical perspective at Peggy Guggenheim Collection and Basilica di Santa Maria della Salute. Kids will appreciate attractions like Doges' Palace and Canal Grande. There's still lots to do: take a stroll through Cannaregio, take in the views from Ponte dei Sospiri, take in the architecture and atmosphere at St. Mary of the Friars, and make a trip to St. Mark's Square.
