Maine's biggest and perhaps most vibrant city, Portland was established as a fishing village in 1633 and grew to become New England's largest port.
Step off the beaten path and head to Boothbay Region Land Trust and Maine Jewish Museum. Step out of Portland with an excursion to Beth Condon Pathway in Yarmouth--about 32 minutes away. There's still lots to do: trek along Back Cove Trail, make a trip to Harbor Fish Market, sample the tasty concoctions at Rising Tide Brewing Company, and stroll through Eastern Prom Trail.
