The largest city in the Peruvian Amazon and the world's largest metropolis unreachable by road, Iquitos represents a major starting point for river and rainforest adventures.
Kick off your visit on the 7th (Sat): stop by Centro Artesanal Turistico Anaconda, identify plant and animal life at Pilpintuwasi Butterfly Farm, then don't miss a visit to Plaza de Armas de Iquitos, then look for all kinds of wild species at Amazon Rescue Center, and finally look for all kinds of wild species at La Isla De Los Monos. Montreal, Canada to Iquitos is an approximately 13-hour flight. You can also do a combination of train and flight; or do a combination of bus and flight. Traveling from Montreal in September, expect Iquitos to be a bit warmer, temps between 38°C and 26°C. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 8th (Sun) so you can travel to Arequipa.

Traveling by car from Arequipa to Puno takes 4.5 hours. Alternatively, you can take a bus. Traveling from Arequipa in September, things will get slightly colder in Puno: highs are around 22°C and lows about 0°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 10th (Tue) to allow time to drive to Machu Picchu.

On the 17th (Tue), get engrossed in the history at Museo Larco, make a trip to Miraflores, then stroll around Parque Kennedy - Parque Central de Miraflores, then pause for some serene contemplation at Iglesia y Convento de San Francisco, and finally wander the streets of Centro Historico de Lima.

Considered the country's capital of culture, Trujillo was the birthplace of the North Group, a community of artists and intellectuals that included celebrated poet Cesar Vallejo and notable novelist Ciro Alegria.
Explore hidden gems such as Museo Cao and Chan Chan. Get a sense of the local culture at Huaca del Sol y la Luna and Catedral de Trujillo - Catedral de Santa Maria. Take a break from Trujillo with a short trip to Huanchaco Beach in Huanchaco, about 36 minutes away.
