Nicknamed the "Emerald City" because of its abundant evergreen trees, Seattle is the cultural and business center of the Pacific Northwest, as well as a popular holiday destination.
Kick off your visit on the 4th (Sat): explore the different monuments and memorials at Lake View Cemetery. Here are some ideas for day two: enjoy the sand and surf at Ed Munro Seahurst Park, enjoy the sand and surf at Alki Beach, then don't miss a visit to Seattle Center, and finally take in the exciting artwork at Chihuly Garden and Glass.

Boston to Seattle is an approximately 8.5-hour combination of bus and flight. You can also drive; or take a train. Traveling from Boston to Seattle, you'll gain 3 hours due to the time zone difference. Traveling from Boston in August, plan for little chillier nights in Seattle, with lows around 61°F. A big city with a small-town feel, Portland is home to the country's biggest rose test garden, perched on a hill overlooking downtown.
Get a sense of the local culture at Johnston Ridge Observatory and Tillamook Air Museum. You'll discover tucked-away gems like Columbia Gorge Discovery Center and Western Antique Aeroplane & Automobile Museum. Astoria, named for famed fur trader John Jacob Astor, resides near the mouth of the Columbia River.
You'll get in some beach time at Cannon Beach and Manzanita Beach. Columbia River Maritime Museum and Cape Disappointment Lighthouse are good opportunities to explore the local culture. Explore Astoria's surroundings by going to Long Beach (Long Beach & Cranberry Museum), Beach Books (in Seaside) and Ilwaco (Don Nisbett Art Gallery & North Head Lighthouse). There's still lots to do: pause for some photo ops at Astoria Column, explore the striking landscape of The Lewis And Clark National And State Historical Parks, and enjoy the sea views from Lightship Columbia.
