A modern metropolis of glassy skyscrapers, waterside boulevards, and lush residential neighborhoods, Perth sits on the edge of the Swan Coastal Plain.

You'll find plenty of places to visit near Perth: Fremantle Prison (in Fremantle), Dolphin & Whale Watching (in Mandurah) and North Dog Beach (in South Fremantle). Colombo, Sri Lanka to Perth is an approximately 14-hour flight. You'll lose 2.5 hours traveling from Colombo to Perth due to the time zone difference. Plan for a bit cooler nights when traveling from Colombo in December since evenings lows in Perth dip to 17°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 21st (Wed) so you can fly to Esperance.

Esperance is a town in the Goldfields-Esperance region of Western Australia, on the Southern Ocean coastline approximately 720km east-southeast of the state capital, Perth. Spend the 22nd (Thu) exploring nature at Cape Le Grand National Park. There's lots more to do: stroll through Twilight Bay, kick back and relax at Fourth Beach, don't miss a visit to Esperance Whale Tail, and admire all the interesting features of Great Ocean Drive.

Traveling by flight from Perth to Esperance takes 3.5 hours. Alternatively, you can drive; or take a bus. Traveling from Perth in December, you will find days in Esperance are little chillier (30°C), and nights are about the same (15°C). Cap off your sightseeing on the 24th (Sat) early enough to go by car to Albany.

Founded as a military outpost in 1826, Albany is the oldest town in Western Australia, just barely gaining this title by being settled two years earlier than Fremantle and Perth.

Start off your visit on the 25th (Sun): explore the striking landscape at Elephant Rocks, then kick back and relax at Greens Pool, and then kick back and relax at Lights Beach. On the 26th (Mon), you'll have a packed day of sightseeing: examine the collection at National Anzac Centre, then enjoy the sand and surf at Little Beach, and then take in the dramatic natural features at The Gap and Natural Bridge.

Traveling by car from Esperance to Albany takes 5 hours. Alternatively, you can do a combination of flight, train, and bus; or take a bus. Expect slightly colder weather when traveling from Esperance in December: highs in Albany hover around 26°C, while lows dip to 13°C. Cap off your sightseeing on the 26th (Mon) early enough to go by car to Margaret River.

A low-rise, laid-back town of approximately 4,500 inhabitants, Margaret River serves as an ideal local base to explore the surrounding wine region.
