Aviemore is a town and tourist resort, situated within the Cairngorms National Park in the Highlands of Scotland. Change things up with a short trip to Highland Folk Museum in Newtonmore (about 30 minutes away). There's still lots to do: explore the striking landscape of Cairngorms National Park, head outdoors with Thunder in the glens, explore the activities along Loch Gynack, and look for all kinds of wild species at Craigellachie National Nature Reserve.

You can drive from Edinburgh to Aviemore in 2.5 hours. Alternatively, you can take a bus; or take a train. In September, plan for daily highs up to 19°C, and evening lows to 9°C. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 6th (Sun) so you can travel to Wick.

Stretching along both sides of the bay and divided by the eponymous river, Wick remains a good base for exploring the rugged northern coast of the Scottish mainland.
Kick off your visit on the 7th (Mon): make a trip to Whaligoe Steps, take an in-depth tour of Clan Gunn Museum, thenstep aboard Caithness Seacoast Ltd, and finally take an in-depth tour of Wick Heritage Museum. Durness is a village and civil parish in the north-west Highlands of Scotland. Kick off your visit on the 9th (Wed): take in the dramatic natural features at Cape Wrath, kick back and relax at Sandwood Bay Beach, and then kick back and relax at Balnakeil Bay.
