Founded in 1535 by Spanish explorer Francisco Pizarro, Lima represents an interesting blend of modern attractions and preserved colonial architecture, much of it clustered in the World Heritage-listed city center.
Kick off your visit on the 21st (Fri): pause for some serene contemplation at Cathedral of Lima and then ponder the world of politics at Palacio de Torre Tagle. Here are some ideas for day two: wander the streets of Miraflores, enjoy the sand and surf at El Silencio, and then take in the views from Bridge of Sighs.

Ljubljana, Slovenia to Lima is an approximately 18.5-hour flight. You can also do a combination of shuttle and flight. Due to the time zone difference, you'll gain 6 hours traveling from Ljubljana to Lima. Traveling from Ljubljana in December, things will get much warmer in Lima: highs are around 28°C and lows about 22°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 23rd (Sun) to allow time to drive to Paracas.

A port town largely devoted to tourism, Paracas serves as a popular starting point for exploration of Peru's south coast.
