Nicknamed the "Emerald City" because of its abundant evergreen trees, Seattle is the cultural and business center of the Pacific Northwest, as well as a popular holiday destination.
Do some cultural sightseeing at Pike Place Market and Chihuly Garden and Glass. You'll get in some beach time at Tolmie State Park and Alki Beach. Get out of town with these interesting Seattle side-trips: Bloedel Reserve (in Bainbridge Island) and Museum of Glass (in Tacoma). There's lots more to do: wander the streets of Pioneer Square, admire nature's wide array of creatures at Seattle Aquarium, examine the collection at The Museum of Flight, and enjoy breathtaking views from Space Needle.

Plattsburgh to Seattle is an approximately 11-hour flight. You can also drive. The time zone changes from Eastern Standard Time to Pacific Standard Time, which is usually a -3 hour difference. Friday Harbor, San Juan Island

The tiny town of Friday Harbor is the largest village on the San Juan Islands, and it fits within just 2.6 km (1 sq mi) of space.
On the 10th (Fri), admire the majestic nature at Lime Kiln Point State Park and then get up close to creatures of the deep with a dolphin and whale watching tour.

Traveling by flight from Seattle to Friday Harbor takes an hour. Alternatively, you can ride a ferry. Traveling from Seattle in August, expect Friday Harbor to be slightly colder, temps between 72°F and 50°F. Cap off your sightseeing on the 11th (Sat) early enough to travel to Portland.

A big city with a small-town feel, Portland is home to the country's biggest rose test garden, perched on a hill overlooking downtown.
