Whangarei is the northernmost city in New Zealand and the regional capital of Northland Region. We've included these beaches for you: Ocean Beach and Sandy Bay. Escape the urban bustle at Whangarei Falls and Mount Manaia Track. Explore Whangarei's surroundings by going to Smugglers Bay Loop Track (in Whangarei Heads) and Whale Bay (in Matapouri). There's much more to do: identify plant and animal life at Poor Knights Island Marine Reserve, appreciate the extensive heritage of Waro Limestone Scenic Reserve Walk, get engrossed in the history at Kiwi North - Kiwi House, Museum & Heritage Park, and wander the streets of Town Basin.

Russell, formerly known as Kororāreka, was the first permanent European settlement and sea port in New Zealand. Step out of the city life by going to Oneroa Bay and The Strand Beach. Explore Russell's surroundings by going to Northland Dive (in Whangaruru) and Paihia (Waitangi Golf Club, Paihia Bookshop, &more). There's still lots to do: contemplate the long history of Pompallier Mission and Printery, hike along Nancy Fladgate Track, indulge in some personalized pampering at some of the best spas, and examine the collection at Russell Museum.

You can drive from Whangarei to Russell in 1.5 hours. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 31st (Mon) so you can go by car to Kerikeri.

Kerikeri, the largest town in Northland New Zealand, is a popular tourist destination about three hours drive north of Auckland, and 80 km north of the northern region's largest city, Whangarei. Take a break from the city and head to Fullers GreatSights Bay of Islands Day Tours and Haruru Falls. Change things up with a short trip to Te Waiariki Ngawha Springs in Kaikohe (about 34 minutes away). There's lots more to do: look for all kinds of wild species at Paihia Harbour, take an unforgettable tour with Salt Air, trek along Kerikeri River Track, and grab your bike and head to Waitangi Mountain Bike Park.

Kaitaia is a town in the Far North District of New Zealand, at the base of the Aupouri Peninsula, about 160 km northwest of Whangarei. Kick off your visit on the 5th (Sat): enjoy the sand and surf at Taipa Beach, kick back and relax at Coopers Beach, thenkick back and relax at Taupo Bay Beach, and finally hike along Taumarumaru Scenic Reserve Walk. Opononi and Omapere are dual settlements on the south shore of the Hokianga harbour in Northland Region, New Zealand.
