Auckland is known for nature, museums, and nightlife. Surrounded by lakes and featuring impressive areas of geothermal landscape, the city of Rotorua offers an otherwordly landscape and a welcoming, peaceful environment, with the culture of the native Maori people very much in the foreground.
Venture out of the city with trips to Taupo (Huka Honey Hive, Huka Falls Walkway, &more). There's still lots to do: witness a stunning natural landmark at Wai-O-Tapu Thermal Wonderland, steep yourself in history at Te Puia, take a peaceful walk through Redwoods, Whakarewarewa Forest, and whizz through the canopy at some of the top local zipline courses and adventure parks.

While traveling from Auckland, expect a bit warmer days and a bit cooler nights in Rotorua, ranging from highs of 27°C to lows of 19°C. Cap off your sightseeing on the 22nd (Sat) early enough to go by car to Napier.

Enjoy the atmosphere and architecture of 1930s design in Napier, one of the best-preserved Art Deco cities in the world.
Take a break from Napier with a short trip to Te Mata Peak in Hastings, about 32 minutes away.
