The largest city on the island, Fukuoka formed through the merger of two former cities that had grown up either side of the Naka River.
On the 5th (Sun), take in the spiritual surroundings of Tochoji Temple, get to know the fascinating history of Yoshinogari Historical Park, then take in the spiritual surroundings of Kamado Shrine, and finally take in the spiritual surroundings of Miyajidake Shrine. Get ready for a full day of sightseeing on the 6th (Mon): head off the coast to Nokonoshima Island, then contemplate the long history of Nanzoin, then take in the spiritual surroundings of Kashii-gu, and finally stroll around Uminonakamichi Seaside Park.

The hilly port city of Nagasaki has become known internationally as one of the two Japanese cities to be destroyed by an atomic bomb towards the close of World War II.
Yutoku Inari Shrine and Suwa Shrine will appeal to history buffs. Discover out-of-the-way places like Nagasaki Peace Memorial Hall for the Atomic Bomb Victims and Kofukuji Temple. Venture out of the city with trips to Onsen Resorts (in Unzen) and Miuracho Catholic Church (in Sasebo). The adventure continues: steep yourself in history at Nyokodo, Nagai Takashi Museum, take an in-depth tour of 26 Martyrs Museum, take in panoramic vistas at Inasayama Observation Deck, and pause for some serene contemplation at Shitsu Church.
