San Francisco, USA to Rome is an approximately 16-hour flight. You can also do a combination of train and flight; or do a combination of bus, shuttle, and flight. Traveling from San Francisco to Rome, you'll lose 9 hours due to the time zone difference. Start off your visit on the 26th (Tue): admire the striking features of Basilica di San Marco, don't miss a visit to Scala Contarini del Bovolo, then contemplate the waterfront views at Canal Grande, then steep yourself in history at Ponte dei Sospiri, and finally examine the collection at Doge's Palace. Here are some ideas for day two: take in the spiritual surroundings of Basilica dei Santi Giovanni e Paolo (San Zanipolo), take in the views from Ponte di Rialto, get to know the fascinating history of Piazza San Marco, admire the striking features of St Mark's Campanile, then explore the world behind art at Gallerie dell'Accademia, and finally steep yourself in history at Squero di San Trovaso.

You can fly from Rome to Venice in 3.5 hours. Alternatively, you can take a train; or drive. In May, daytime highs in Venice are 72°F, while nighttime lows are 55°F. On the 28th (Thu), you'll have the morning to explore before heading off to Florence.

Considered a cultural, artistic, and architectural jewel of Italy, Florence is the birthplace of the Italian Renaissance.
Take a break from Florence with a short trip to Leaning Tower of Pisa in Pisa, about 1h 10 min away. And it doesn't end there: examine the collection at Academy Of Florence Art Gallery, appreciate the extensive heritage of Piazza del Duomo, take in the views from Ponte Vecchio, and make a trip to Piazza della Signoria.

You can take a train from Venice to Florence in 2.5 hours. Alternatively, you can drive; or take a bus. In May, plan for daily highs up to 71°F, and evening lows to 52°F. You will have some time to spend on the 31st (Sun) before leaving for Sorrento.

A lovely town easily accessible from almost anywhere in the country, Sorrento overlooks the Bay of Naples and sits right on the Amalfi Drive.
Change things up with a short trip to Fornillo in Positano (about 38 minutes away). There's still lots to do: make a trip to Piazza Tasso and take a leisurely stroll along Marina Grande - Antico Borgo Marinaro.

Traveling by combination of train and subway from Florence to Sorrento takes 4.5 hours. Alternatively, you can drive; or do a combination of flight, train, and subway. Traveling from Florence in May, expect a bit warmer with lows of 60°F in Sorrento. You will have some time to spend on the 4th (Thu) before leaving for Rome.
