In many ways much more Asian than American, Honolulu is Hawaii's largest city and its center of government, transportation, commerce, and tourism.
For shopping fun, head to Polynesian Cultural Center or Ala Moana Center. Visiting Waikiki Beach and Diamond Head State Monument will get you outdoors. Get out of town with these interesting Honolulu side-trips: Kailua Beach Park (in Kailua) and Sunset Beach Park (in Haleiwa). And it doesn't end there: get engrossed in the history at USS Arizona Memorial, contemplate the long history of Battleship Missouri Memorial, stroll the grounds of National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific, and identify plant and animal life at Hanauma Bay Nature Preserve.
