Daegu

The fourth-largest city in South Korea, Daegu sprawls out across a wide, flat valley overlooked by a sacred Buddhist mountain.
Start off your visit on the 7th (Sun): hunt for treasures at Seomun Market, take in the spiritual surroundings of Donghwasa, and then steep yourself in history at Bullodong Ancient Tomb Park. On the next day, walk around Daegu Duryu Park, find something for the whole family at E-World, and then get up close and personal with brilliant marine life at Alive Aquarium Daegu.

The country's second city, Busan has often been referred to as South Korea's summer capital.
Kick off your visit on the 9th (Tue): kick back and relax at Haeundae Beach, stroll through Gwangalli Beach, then walk around Yongdusan Park, and finally examine the collection at Trick Eye Museum. On the 10th (Wed), you'll have a packed day of sightseeing: contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Beomeosa Temple, take in the spiritual surroundings of Haedong Yonggungsa, and then make a trip to Gwangandaegyo Bridge.

You can take a train from Daegu to Busan in an hour. Alternatively, you can drive; or take a bus. In August, plan for daily highs up to 36°C, and evening lows to 27°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 10th (Wed) to allow enough time to take a train to Daejeon.
