With a nickname like the "Pearl of the Orient," it's not surprising Shanghai offers some of the most rewarding attractions and activities in the Far East.
Museum-lovers will get to explore Shanghai Propaganda Poster Art Centre and Three on the Bund. Get some cultural insight at Former French Concession and Shanghai Museum (Shanghai Bowuguan). And it doesn't end there: stop by Tian Zi Fang, buy something for everyone on your list at In Point, take in panoramic vistas at Oriental Pearl Tower (Dongfang Mingzhu), and get a taste of the local shopping with Nanjing Lu (Nanjing Road).

Sydney, Australia to Shanghai is an approximately 13.5-hour flight. You can also do a combination of flight and train; or do a combination of train and flight. The time zone changes from Australian Eastern Standard Time (New South Wales) (AEST) to China Standard Time (CST), which is usually a -2 hour difference. One of the oldest settlements in the Yangtze basin, Suzhou remains a complex, labyrinthine set of old canal districts, World Heritage gardens, and sprawling modern developments.
Start off your visit on the 20th (Thu): examine the collection at Suzhou Garden Museum, then shop like a local with Pingjiang Road, and then stroll around Humble Administrator's Garden. On the 21st (Fri), you'll have a packed day of sightseeing: explore the engaging exhibits at Six Arts Museum and then take in the exciting artwork at Suzhou Embroidery Research Institute.

You can take a train from Shanghai to Suzhou in an hour. Other options are to do a combination of subway and train; or drive. When traveling from Shanghai in February, plan for colder days and a bit cooler nights in Suzhou: temperatures range from -5°C by day to -5°C at night. Finish your sightseeing early on the 21st (Fri) so you can travel to Beijing.

Expect somewhat warmer weather when traveling from Suzhou in February: highs in Beijing hover around 6°C, while lows dip to -7°C.
