Nearly destroyed by war during the 1990s, the riverside city of Sarajevo now serves as one of the region's major educational, cultural, and commercial hubs.
When in Sarajevo, make a side trip to see Olympic Center Jahorina in Jahorina, approximately Jahorina away. On the 4th (Sun), spend a day ambling around Vrelo Bosne. There's lots more to do: contemplate the long history of Bascarsija, examine the collection at War Childhood Museum, take in the spiritual surroundings of Gazi Husrev-beg Mosque, and savor the flavors at Food & Drink.

Madrid, Spain to Sarajevo is an approximately 9-hour flight. You can also drive; or do a combination of train and bus. Finish your sightseeing early on the 7th (Wed) so you can drive to Trebinje.

Trebinje

Trebinje is the southernmost municipality and city in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Start off your visit on the 8th (Thu): Head underground at Vjetrenica, contemplate the waterfront views at Trebisnjica River, then take in the architecture and atmosphere at Mosque of Osman-Pasha, and finally take in the architecture and atmosphere at Cathedral Temple of Holy Transfiguration of Our Lord. On your second day here, take in the architecture and atmosphere at Hercegovacka Gracanica, then learn about winemaking at Andjelic Wine Cellar, and then learn about winemaking at Vukoje Cellars.

Traveling by car from Sarajevo to Trebinje takes 3.5 hours. Alternatively, you can do a combination of train and taxi; or do a combination of train and bus. In April, plan for daily highs up to 20°C, and evening lows to 11°C. Cap off your sightseeing on the 9th (Fri) early enough to go by car to Mostar.

Mostar

Famed for its 16th-century bridge, Mostar boasts a rich cultural and architectural heritage.
Venture out of the city with trips to Kravica (in Studenci) and Apparition Hill (in Medjugorje). Next up on the itinerary: snap pictures at Old Bridge (Stari Most), take in the spiritual surroundings of Koskin-Mehmed Pasha's Mosque, contemplate the waterfront views at Neretva River, and take an in-depth tour of Bosnaseum.

Jajce

Jajce is a town and municipality located in the central part of Bosnia and Herzegovina, in the Bosanska Krajina region. Kick off your visit on the 14th (Wed): don't miss a visit to Stari grad, then take your sightseeing to a higher altitude at Vlasic Mountain, and then don't miss a visit to Watermills.

Drive from Mostar to Jajce in 3 hours. Alternatively, you can take a bus; or take a bus. Prepare for a bit cooler weather when traveling from Mostar in April: high temperatures in Jajce hover around 18°C and lows are around 4°C.
