With its strip malls and fast-food restaurants, Fairbanks appears a bit functional on first glance.
Step off the beaten path and head to Fishing Charters & Tours and Chena River State Recreation Area. Take a break from the city and head to Nature & Wildlife Tours and Creamer's Field Migratory Waterfowl Refuge. It doesn't end there: hike along Angel Rocks Trail and examine the collection at Bouchard's International Dog Mushing and Sled Museum.

Juneau

Juneau is an unusual state capital in many respects.
