One of the largest and oldest cities in Central Asia, Tashkent combines layers of history and a bustling modern edge.
Escape the urban bustle at Lake Charvak and Chimgon. Popular historic sites such as Teleshayakh Mosque and Minor Mosque are in your itinerary. The adventure continues: make a trip to Barak-Khan Madrassah, admire the striking features of Khamid Alimdjan, and browse the eclectic array of goods at Chorsu Bazaar.

With an illustrious history as a main stop along the Great Silk Road, Khiva boasts remarkably well-preserved cultural attractions and a beautiful historic core.
Start off your visit on the 24th (Tue): steep yourself in history at Mohammed Amin Madrassah, contemplate the long history of Pakhlavan Makhmud Mausoleum, then steep yourself in history at Kalta Minor Minaret, and finally explore the ancient world of Itchan Kala. Keep things going the next day: step into the grandiose world of Stone Palace (Tash Khauli), make a trip to Islam Khodja Complex, contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Friday Mosque, make a trip to Pahlovon Mahmud Mausoleum, then contemplate the long history of Tomb of Sayid Allauddin, and finally step into the grandiose world of Nurullaboy Saroyi.

Fly from Tashkent to Khiva in 3.5 hours. Alternatively, you can drive; or take a train. December in Khiva sees daily highs of 5°C and lows of -4°C at night. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 25th (Wed) so you can travel to Samarkand.

You'll explore the less-touristy side of things at Sher Dor Madrasah and Art Gallery Happy Bird. Shah-i-Zinda and Bibi-Khanym Mosque Bibi-Xonum will appeal to history buffs. Traveling by flight from Khiva to Samarkand takes 5 hours. Alternatively, you can take a train. When traveling from Khiva in December, plan for somewhat warmer days and about the same nights in Samarkand: temperatures range from 10°C by day to -1°C at night. Cap off your sightseeing on the 28th (Sat) early enough to travel to Bukhara.
