Capital of the Inca Empire for three centuries, World Heritage-listed Cusco is now a major tourist destination, drawing nearly 2 million annual tourists with its well-preserved colonial architecture and proximity to Machu Picchu.
Start off your visit on the 9th (Mon): delve into the distant past at Sacsayhuaman and then see the interesting displays at Pre-Columbian Art Museum. Keep things going the next day: contemplate the long history of Plaza de Armas, then contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Catedral del Cuzco o Catedral Basilica de la Virgen de la Asuncion, and then delve into the distant past at Sacred Valley of the Incas.

Lima to Cusco is an approximately 3-hour flight. You can also take a bus; or drive. When traveling from Lima in April, plan for slightly colder days in Cusco, with highs around 23°C, while nights are cooler with lows around 7°C.
