Lake Como travel guide
A favorite vacation spot for more than a century, Lake Como was once an exclusive retreat for local aristocrats and wealthy people. It is not only one of Europe's most beautiful lakes, but also one of the deepest at more than 400 m (1,300 ft). Surrounded by elegant villas, the lake has become a popular holiday destination for tourists because of its range of attractions, from landscapes, wildlife, and spas, to activities like sailing, windsurfing, and kite-surfing. The area has been an inspiration for artists since Roman times. English poet Percy Bysshe Shelley wrote, "This lake exceeds anything I ever beheld in beauty…It is long and narrow and has the appearance of a mighty river winding among the mountains and the forests."
Canton of Valais travel guide
With a strong emphasis on Alpine sports atop 4,000 m (13,123 ft) tall mountains, Valais is home to well-known resort towns and quaint villages. The panoramic views here are dominated by the famous Matterhorn, standing at 4,478 m (14,692 ft). Idyllic hikes through the dense forest, snowshoe trekking along the Alpine landscape, and jovial après-ski gatherings are among the things to do. Catch a glimpse of bubbling mountain streams winding through the many trails on foot or mountain bike, and after your adventures, immerse yourself in a thermal bath with a glass of acclaimed local wine.
San Marino travel guide
San Marino is a country characterized by its architecture--namely, the three towers that adorn the country's flag and coat of arms. As a result, most of the tourist attractions here center around the structures protruding from the hill of the country. The third-smallest nation in Europe, it is surprising that San Marino managed to gain independence from robust Italy. This status has created great pride among the Sanmarinese, although Italian culture is still quite influential as the country is completely surrounded by Italy. And while its size has obvious disadvantages, the advantages for tourism strongly outweigh them. Visitors don't need to travel to get a sense of the country (there isn't far to go!), and this generates an intimacy and friendliness among locals that is lost in most larger countries.
