The City and Borough of Sitka, formerly Novo-Arkhangelsk, or New Archangel under Russian rule, is a unified city-borough located on Baranof Island and the southern half of Chichagof Island in the Alexander Archipelago of the Pacific Ocean (part of the Alaska Panhandle), in the U.S. You'll explore the less-touristy side of things at Fishing Charters & Tours and Kayaking & Canoeing. Escape the urban bustle at Dolphin & Whale Watching and Alaska Raptor Center. There's still lots to do: see the interesting displays at Sheldon Jackson Museum, identify plant and animal life at Starrigavan Recreation Area, steep yourself in history at Sitka Lutheran Church, and admire the landmark architecture of Russian Bishop's House.

Washington DC to Sitka is an approximately 12-hour combination of subway, bus, and flight. You can also fly. The time zone changes from Eastern Standard Time to Alaska Standard Time, which is usually a -4 hour difference. While traveling from Washington DC, expect much colder days and slightly colder nights in Sitka, ranging from highs of 62°F to lows of 54°F. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 31st (Wed) early enough to fly to Skagway.

The Municipality and Borough of Skagway is a first-class borough in Alaska on the Alaska Panhandle. Eschew the tourist crowds and head to Nature & Wildlife Tours and Gold Rush Cemetery. Get outdoors at Lower Dewey Lake Hiking Trail and Chilkoot River. There's still lots to do: take a memorable tour with Tours, explore the striking landscape of Klondike Gold Rush National Historical Park, make a trip to Lower Reid Falls, and stop by Skagway Alaska Downtown.

Traveling by flight from Sitka to Skagway takes 3 hours. Alternatively, you can do a combination of flight and ferry; or ride a ferry. In July, daytime highs in Skagway are 65°F, while nighttime lows are 54°F. Finish your sightseeing early on the 3rd (Sat) to allow enough time to travel to Juneau.

Juneau

Juneau is an unusual state capital in many respects.
Discover out-of-the-way places like Mount Roberts Trail and Alaskan Brewery and Bottling Company. Step out of the city life by going to Zipline and Mendenhall Glacier Visitor Center. The adventure continues: identify plant and animal life at Wildlife Areas, brush up on your knowledge of spirits at Amalga Distillery, get outside with Ward Air, and explore the striking landscape at Mendenhall Glacier.

You can fly from Skagway to Juneau in 2.5 hours. Other options are to do a combination of ferry and flight; or ride a ferry. In August, daily temperatures in Juneau can reach 64°F, while at night they dip to 51°F. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 6th (Tue) so you can travel to Homer.

Homer is a city located in Kenai Peninsula Borough in the U.S. Discover out-of-the-way places like Bishop's Beach Park and Center for Alaskan Coastal Studies. Visiting Photography Tours and Homer Spit will get you outdoors. When in Homer, make a side trip to see Fishing Charters & Tours in Ninilchik, approximately 42 minutes away.
