You might consider the city of Budapest, divided by the Danube River into two distinctive cities--Buda and Pest--to be essentially one large World Heritage Site.
Popular historic sites such as Matthias Church and Liberty Statue are in your itinerary. Attractions like Fisherman's Bastion and Hősök tere make great kid-friendly stops. One of Poland's oldest cities, Krakow sits at the foot of the Carpathian Mountains, its historical town center nestled on the left bank of the Vistula River.
On the 29th (Wed), appreciate the extensive heritage of Kazmierz The Former Jewish District, then pause for some serene contemplation at St. Mary's Basilica, then take in the spiritual surroundings of Wawel Cathedral, and finally appreciate the extensive heritage of Main Market Square. On your second day here, steep yourself in history at Wawel Royal Castle and then take a stroll through Stare Miasto.

Built on a desolate swamp as a showcase capital of Imperial Russia, this grand city has certainly lived up to the expectations of its founder, Tsar Peter the Great.
Saint Isaac's Cathedral and Church of the Savior on Spilled Blood are good opportunities to explore the local culture.
