One of east Asia's major cultural and financial centers, Seoul boasts five World Heritage Sites and a huge selection of museums, temples, shrines, palaces, parks, gardens, and glass-and-steel skyscrapers.
Give yourself a bit of retail therapy at Garosu-gil and Kim's Boutique. Visit Hwaseong Fortress and Hwaseong Haenggung Palace for their historical value. There's still lots to do: get to know the fascinating history of Changgyeonggung Palace, contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Jogyesa Temple, steep yourself in history at Deoksugung, and don't miss a visit to Gwanghwamun Gate.

Newark, USA to Seoul is an approximately 17-hour flight. Due to the time zone difference, you'll lose 14 hours traveling from Newark to Seoul. Expect a bit cooler weather when traveling from Newark in September: highs in Seoul hover around 72°F, while lows dip to 71°F. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 6th (Tue) early enough to fly to Busan.

Busan — 3 nights

The country's second city, Busan has often been referred to as South Korea's summer capital.
UN Memorial Cemetery and Gyeongju Historic Area will appeal to history buffs. You'll discover tucked-away gems like Gwangalli Beach and Bujeon Ginseng Market. When in Busan, make a side trip to see Cheonmachong Tomb in Gyeongju, approximately Gyeongju away. There's still lots to do: take in the spiritual surroundings of Beomeosa Temple and head outdoors with Dadaepo Beach.

Fly from Seoul to Busan in 2.5 hours. Alternatively, you can take a train; or drive. When traveling from Seoul in September, plan for a bit warmer days and a bit cooler nights in Busan: temperatures range from 79°F by day to 65°F at night. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 9th (Fri) to allow time to fly to Jeju.

Island of the Gods

The main town on the largest of Korea's islands, Jeju, has a volcanic landscape protected by UNESCO. The World Heritage-listed volcanic island includes the country's highest peak, sets of impressive lava tubes and columns, and several crater lakes.
You'll discover tucked-away gems like Dongmun Market and Yakchunsa Temple. You'll enjoy a bit of beach vacationing at Hamdeok Beach and Woljeongri Beach. The adventure continues: head outdoors with Hyeopjae Beach, take in nature's colorful creations at Hallim Park, and admire the landmark architecture of Bangju Church.

You can fly from Busan to Jeju in 2.5 hours. Alternatively, you can do a combination of car and ferry; or do a combination of train, taxi, and ferry. Traveling from Busan in September, expect a bit warmer with lows of 73°F in Jeju. On the 13th (Tue), wrap the sightseeing up by early afternoon so you can travel back home.
