Often referred to as Iceland's second city, Akureyri offers an array of cultural attractions in a scenic setting.
You'll explore the less-touristy side of things at Nature & Wildlife Tours and Horseback Riding Tours. Escape the urban bustle at Scuba & Snorkeling and Godafoss. There's lots more to do: get up close to creatures of the deep with a dolphin and whale watching tour, relax and rejuvenate at some of the top local wellness centers, pause for some serene contemplation at Akureyrarkirkja, and steep yourself in history at Matthiasarhus.

Barcelona, Spain to Akureyri is an approximately 15-hour flight. You can also drive. You'll gain 1 hour traveling from Barcelona to Akureyri due to the time zone difference. Traveling from Barcelona in August, expect Akureyri to be much colder, temps between 16°C and 8°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 31st (Fri) so you can drive to Reykjahlid.

Eschew the tourist crowds and head to Selfoss Waterfall and Asbyrgi (Shelter of the Gods). Step out of the city life by going to Dimmuborgir Lava Formations and Lofthellir Lava Cave. Get out of town with these interesting Reykjahlid side-trips: Vesturdalur (in Asbyrgi) and Husavik (Husavikurkirkja, Dolphin & Whale Watching, & more). There's much more to do: admire the sheer force of Dettifoss, take in the dramatic natural features at Skutustadagigar, get outside with Hofdi, and take in the natural beauty of Myvatn Nature Baths (Jardbodin vid Myvatn).

Drive from Akureyri to Reykjahlid in 1.5 hours. Alternatively, you can take a bus. In August in Reykjahlid, expect temperatures between 16°C during the day and 8°C at night. Finish your sightseeing early on the 6th (Thu) to allow enough time to travel back home.
