Reykjavik, the world's most northerly capital, effortlessly combines small-town charm with heaps of big city energy.

The popular town of Husavik not only boasts some of Iceland's best whale-watching opportunities but is arguably the northeast coast's prettiest town.
Get outdoors at Salka Whale Watching and Mývatn Nature Baths. When in Husavik, make a side trip to see Asbyrgi (Shelter of the Gods) in Asbyrgi, approximately Asbyrgi away. There's still lots to do: admire the sheer force of Dettifoss Waterfall, take in the architecture and atmosphere at Husavikurkirkja, stroll through Krafla Lava Fields, and take in the dramatic natural features at Rauoanes Point.

You can fly from Reykjavik to Husavik in 3 hours. Alternatively, you can drive; or take a bus. July in Husavik sees daily highs of 16°C and lows of 9°C at night. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 27th (Tue) early enough to travel to Landmannalaugar.

A conglomeration of several districts, Blaskogabyggd encompasses a handful of settlements totaling around 930 people in southwestern Iceland.
