The national capital for over a thousand years, Kyoto retains much of the charm of old Japan, boasting numerous temples and shrines that seem completely untouched by the modern world.
You'll discover tucked-away gems like Tofuku-ji Temple and Mt. Kurama. Do some cultural sightseeing at Fushimi Inari-taisha Shrine and Kiyomizu-dera Temple. Venture out of the city with trips to Uji (Byodoin, Byodo-in Temple Museum Hoshokan, &more). There's still lots to do: contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Shoren-in Temple (Shoren-in Monzeki), make a trip to Nijo Castle, tour the pleasant surroundings at Nanzen-ji Temple, and contemplate the long history of Kifune Shrine.

You can take a train from Tokyo to Kyoto in 3.5 hours. Other options are to fly; or drive. Expect a daytime high around 32°C in June, and nighttime lows around 22°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 10th (Sat) to allow enough time to travel back home.
