Called "Oporto" by many, the city of Porto along the Duoro River lent the country and Port wine their names. Portugal's second-largest metropolis dates back to the 4th century, representing both a rich cultural past and industrial present through its architecture and style.
Give yourself a bit of retail therapy at Palacio da Bolsa and Garrafeira do Carmo. Your cultural itinerary includes sights like Porto Cathedral (Se Catedral) and Igreja dos Carmelitas. Explore Porto's surroundings by going to Lamego (Quinta da Pacheca, Catedral de Lamego, & more), Casa de Mateus (in Vila Real) and Guimaraes (Largo da Oliveira & Citania de Briteiros). The adventure continues: take in the architecture and atmosphere at Igreja do Carmo, learn about winemaking at Cockburn’s Port Wine Lodge, get to know the fascinating history of Rua das Flores, and contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Sanctuary of Our Lady of Sameiro.
