Almaty, Kazakhstan to Hersonissos is an approximately 20-hour combination of flight and car. You'll gain 4 hours traveling from Almaty to Hersonissos due to the time zone difference. Expect a bit warmer evenings in Hersonissos when traveling from Almaty in August, with lows around 24°C. Cap off your sightseeing on the 1st (Thu) early enough to go by car to Rethymnon.

Rethymnon — 1 night

Rethymnon combines the old-fashioned charm of a small town with proximity to long sandy beaches with all the modern conveniences usually found in big tourist resorts.
Start off your visit on the 2nd (Fri): take in the spiritual surroundings of Monastery of Arkadi, see Off-Road Tours, and then take a stroll through Rethymnon Old Town.

Traveling by car from Hersonissos to Rethymnon takes 1.5 hours. Alternatively, you can take a shuttle; or take a bus. In September, plan for daily highs up to 34°C, and evening lows to 23°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 2nd (Fri) to allow time to drive to Chania Town.
