Lying in the Tamar Valley and surrounded by forested hills, the grid-patterned city of Launceston boasts shaded avenues, vibrant street life, and a cosmopolitan atmosphere.
On the 13th (Tue), learn the secrets of beer at Prestige Tours Tasmania and then tour the pleasant surroundings at Cataract Gorge Reserve. Keep things going the next day: stroll around City Park, then view the masterpieces at Design Centre Tasmania, and then surround yourself with nature on Low Head Penguin Tours.

Sydney to Launceston is an approximately 3.5-hour flight. You can also do a combination of train, ferry, and bus; or do a combination of bus and ferry. Snaking up the side of a rounded, tree-dotted hill, Hobart sits between Tasmania’s sprawling mountains and the vast estuary of the River Derwent.
When in Hobart, make a side trip to see Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary in Brighton, approximately Brighton away. On the 17th (Sat), give your taste buds a day to remember with a local gastronomic tour. There's much more to do: take your sightseeing to a higher altitude at Mount Wellington, admire the masterpieces at Museum of Old and New Art (Mona), indulge your thirst for a good beer at Cascade Brewery, and snap pictures at Richmond Bridge.
