San Juan — 3 nights

Founded by the Spanish in 1521, San Juan is the oldest city under U.S. jurisdiction and one of the oldest in the Americas.
Step out of San Juan to go to El Yunque National Forest and see El Yunque National Forest, which is approximately 1h 10 min away. There's still lots to do: get to know the fascinating history of Sitio Histórico de San Juan, enjoy the sand and surf at Condado Beach, pause for some photo ops at Plazuela La Rogativa, and stop by Old San Juan.

San Francisco, USA to San Juan is an approximately 12.5-hour flight. Due to the time zone difference, you'll lose 4 hours traveling from San Francisco to San Juan. Expect much hotter temperatures when traveling from San Francisco in December; daily highs in San Juan reach 85°F and lows reach 75°F. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 6th (Mon) so you can catch the flight to Culebra.

Culebra — 4 nights

With much of Culebra a nature refuge, the tropical island has been protected from overdevelopment, chain hotels, and the cruise set.
We've included these beaches for you: Flamenco Beach and Playa Zoni. There's lots more to do: kick back and relax at Playa Tamarindo, stroll through Playa Punta Soldado Beach, and visit a coastal fixture at Culebrita Lighthouse.

You can fly from San Juan to Culebra in 2 hours. Other options are to do a combination of car and ferry; or do a combination of shuttle, taxi, and ferry. In December, daily temperatures in Culebra can reach 85°F, while at night they dip to 75°F. Finish your sightseeing early on the 10th (Fri) to allow enough time to fly to Isla de Vieques.

Isla de Vieques — 2 nights

For sixty years until 2003, most of the Isla de Vieques was closed off to the public, with the US Navy using the island's beaches and surrounding waters for drills and testing of new military machinery, such as bombs.
Kick off your visit on the 10th (Fri): kick back and relax at Balneario Sun Bay. Here are some ideas for day two: enjoy the sand and surf at Green Beach and then enjoy the sand and surf at Playa Media Luna.

You can fly from Culebra to Isla de Vieques in 3.5 hours. Another option is to ride a ferry. In December in Isla de Vieques, expect temperatures between 84°F during the day and 75°F at night. Wrap up your sightseeing by early afternoon on the 12th (Sun) to allow enough time to fly back home.
