Surrounded by mountain ranges, forests, valleys, beaches, and deserts, the metropolitan area of Los Angeles is home to over 17 million people.
Take a break from the city and head to Venice Beach and Boardwalk and Santa Monica Beach. Your cultural itinerary includes sights like Abbot Kinney Boulevard and The Getty Center. Venture out of the city with trips to Santa Monica (Bergamot Station & Montana Avenue), Disneyland Park (in Anaheim) and Laguna Beach (in Laguna Beach). There's lots more to do: see the sky in a new way at Griffith Observatory, look for gifts at Hollywood & Highland, get to know the fascinating history of Hollywood Walk of Fame, and identify plant and animal life at Kenneth Hahn State Recreation Area.

For photos, other places to visit, and tourist information, go to the Los Angeles driving holiday planner .

Aptly nicknamed the "Mile-High City," Denver sits at an altitude of 1,600 m (5,280 ft) above sea level, located right where the Great Plains give way to the Rocky Mountains.
Get outdoors at Cherry Creek State Park and Coyote Ridge Natural Area. Head to Tattered Cover Bookstore and The Dam Storefor plenty of shopping. Change things up with these side-trips from Denver: Keystone Ski Area (in Keystone) and Winter Park Resort (in Winter Park). There's still lots to do: stroll through Butterfly Pavilion and Insect Center.

For where to stay, photos, reviews, and tourist information, refer to the Denver route planner .

Traveling by combination of train and flight from Los Angeles to Denver takes 4.5 hours. Alternatively, you can do a combination of bus and flight; or drive. Due to the time zone difference, you'll lose 1 hour traveling from Los Angeles to Denver. Traveling from Los Angeles in March, things will get cooler in Denver: highs are around 55°F and lows about 30°F. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 17th (Sat) early enough to travel back home.
