Kagoshima sits across the bay from Sakurajima, an active volcano that serves as a symbol of the city and works its way into many aspects of life here.
Eschew the tourist crowds and head to Yunohira Lookout and Thermal Spas. Explore the numerous day-trip ideas around Kagoshima: Kirishima Open-Art Museum (in Yusui-cho), Kirishima (Furumi Site & Mt. Shinmoe) and Tatsumonjizaka (in Aira). Singapore, Singapore to Kagoshima is an approximately 11-hour flight. You can also do a combination of flight and train. The time zone changes from Singapore Time (SGT) to Japan Standard Time (JST), which is usually a 1 hour difference. Prepare for much colder weather when traveling from Singapore in April: high temperatures in Kagoshima hover around 22°C and lows are around 12°C. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 12th (Sun) so you can travel to Yakushima-cho.

Start off your visit on the 13th (Mon): explore the wealth of natural beauty at Yakusugi Land, then make a trip to Jōmon Sugi, and then don't miss a visit to Taikoiwa. Get ready for a full day of sightseeing on the next day: make a trip to Yahazu Cape, then don't miss a visit to Wilson Stump, then explore the stunning scenery at Shiratani Unsuikyo Valley, and finally take in the dramatic scenery at Janokuchinotaki Falls.

You can do a combination of flight and taxi from Kagoshima to Yakushima-cho in 3.5 hours. Alternatively, you can do a combination of ferry and taxi. Traveling from Kagoshima in April, you can expect nighttime temperatures to be a bit warmer in Yakushima-cho, with lows of 17°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 14th (Tue) to allow enough time to travel to Nagasaki.

The hilly port city of Nagasaki has become known internationally as one of the two Japanese cities to be destroyed by an atomic bomb towards the close of World War II.
Step off the beaten path and head to Inasayama Observation Deck and Nagasaki Peace Memorial Hall for the Atomic Bomb Victims. You'll find plenty of places to visit near Nagasaki: Sasebo (Ishidake Observatory & Huis Ten Bosch), Yutoku Inari Shrine (in Kashima) and Takeo (Takeo City Library & Takeo no Okusu). Next up on the itinerary: take an in-depth tour of Nagasaki Atomic Bomb Museum, steep yourself in history at Suwa Shrine, take in nature's colorful creations at Glover Garden, and examine the collection at Nagasaki Shipyard Museum.

You can do a combination of taxi, flight, and train from Yakushima-cho to Nagasaki in 5.5 hours. Other options are to do a combination of taxi, ferry, and train; or do a combination of car and ferry. Traveling from Yakushima-cho in April, plan for a bit cooler nights in Nagasaki, with lows around 14°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 17th (Fri) to allow time to take a train to Fukuoka.

The largest city on the island, Fukuoka formed through the merger of two former cities that had grown up either side of the Naka River.
Kick off your visit on the 18th (Sat): admire the landmark architecture of Sagajo Park, contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Tenkai Inari Shrine, take in the spiritual surroundings of Dazaifu Temmangu, then take an in-depth tour of Fukuoka City Museum, then get lost in a book at Fukuoka City Public Library, and finally let the kids burn off some steam at Ohori Park. Getting from Nagasaki to Fukuoka by train takes about 2 hours. Other options: drive; or take a bus. In April, plan for daily highs up to 23°C, and evening lows to 13°C. You'll have a few hours on the 19th (Sun) to wrap things up before traveling home.
