In many ways much more Asian than American, Honolulu is Hawaii's largest city and its center of government, transportation, commerce, and tourism.
Change things up with these side-trips from Honolulu: Kailua Beach Park (in Kailua), Haleiwa (Waimea Bay & Sunset Beach Park) and Pu’u O Mahuka Heiau State Monument (in Pupukea). There's much more to do: steep yourself in history at USS Arizona Memorial, see some colorful creatures with a scuba or snorkeling tour, see the interesting displays at USS Bowfin Submarine Museum & Park, and make a trip to Battleship Missouri Memorial.
