Since 1776 the sprawling arboreous expanse has been a protected reserve, covering two thirds of the island. In the depths of the 3,958 ha (9,780 ac) tropical rainforest, an abundance of flora and fauna is yours to explore. With over 210 species of rare and indigenous bird, recommendations state to visit the rainforest with a pre arranged guide, who have the expertise needed to help you find as much of the wildlife and rare plant species as possible. Search the canopies for the Sabrewing Hummingbird, endemic to Tobago and a rare sight. The most popular starting point is Gilpin Trace, from here you can pick up numerous trails.   • tobago is very special place and i am so happy is is still a have space where there are not so many tourist! 
  • This wonderful rainforest was among the first to be so designated. Although devastated by a hurricane in the 1960s it is still spectacular with lots of new growth. We went on a birdwatching trip with ...  more »
  • You can drive through and across this high range rainforest, or get involved in guided walks and tours, see the wonderful birds, and the amazing flora.
