Fort King George, Port of Spain
Categories: Battlefields, Historic Sites, Tourist Spots
Visit Fort King George and learn about the history of the island. Built by the British towards the end of the 18th century, the fort has been carefully restored; today, a number of signs reveal the history of the buildings and their various uses. Cannons stand in situ around the neatly maintained grounds, and the old prison has a particularly striking atmosphere. Stop by the well-curated museum to see interesting artifacts from indigenous cultures, 19th-century watercolors of the island, and maps from the 1600s.
