Admire the dramatic spray of Mapu'a 'a Vaea Blowholes a series of natural blowholes in the rocky coastline of Tongatapu. When waves crash into the reef, the water pressure rushes through natural channels of volcanic rock, sending sky-high flume-like geysers soaring into the air seemingly out of nowhere. You can either take in the spectacular views from a lookout point, or walk along the edge of the track to get the full effect. Look for small kiosks selling handmade souvenirs, and come prepared with your own snacks as there are no other amenities nearby. • Usually when you say blowhole you mean one. Here you have a variety of small ones and large ones The wave action is constant and they are continually blowing.

  • Along a long drive around the island we arrived here at 4.30pm. Met with amazing views up and down the coast. Incredible terraced pools & blowholes that were surreal to watch. After walking along...

  • It was fun driving out to the Blowholes. Besides the Blowholes, you got to see some agriculture as well as some very nice homes.

  • GORGEOUS place!😍 Makes you feel so small next to the enormous 40 meter waves! Just don't go down to the water, it's dangerous and the rocks are extremely sharp. A must-see in Tonga!
  • This is a remote spot (as remote as anything on Tongatapu can be at least) but it was easy to get to. Could've spent hours here mesmerised by the blowholes on such a beautiful day. There are no facilities in terms of bathrooms, food, etc. but there are a few local craft vendors who setup shop near the road turn off. Absolutely stunning spot, especially if (like me) you've never seen natural blowholes before.
  • One of the most dramatic locations you can see. You can see the waves crashing against the rocks all along the coastline.
  • Beautiful waves crashing against the stoned shores....mother nature did an amazing job here....just dont get too close to the waves or fish food you will become
  • The tide was a little too high on my trip to experience the blow holes right up close, but they were still magnificent to behold. There was a quiet pool to wade into with tropical fish.
