  • Nice, spacious and educational museum. Tour of the real prison was special. You get a feeling here (if it is just a tad bit) at how it must have been. ...

  • Because we were near to the prison museum. The museum gives a good impression of the history on the development of the prison system in Netherlands and the penalties. Museum is also very nice with children, recommended is also the tour at the Red-tiled an old prison that was still in use until 2008 as security.

  • A visit to the prison museum is very worth it! A tour in "the Red-tiled", a penitiaire device, which since 2008 no longer in use as such, is very "fascinating" the cell complex with the isolation cell, single and double cells, the air space and the showers give a very impressive image of the prison. The policy was here: 23 hours on cell, 1 hour airing. It gave me a very useful, I should not think so in your freedom to be limited. Actually, every 7th and 8th group of the elementary school and the bridge classes of secondary education, the opportunity to make an excursion here.

  • Well documented and presented, although in Dutch only. Unless you are interested in history of Veenhuizen and prisons, it's not recommended. There's an English brochure/guide but it's so-so.
  • Nice museum located in an old prison. The building is surrounded by nature and some nice villages. The nicest part was the optional visit to the 2e prison building that was used until a few years ago.
  • The exhibition gives a fair overview of the Dutch prison system. Telling about veenhuizen itself I found personally what too skinny. What was this place and why and was the approach successful? It remains what underexposed.

  • Local history of the colony, advice to also look in rodepannen prison.
