  • This was really unexpectedly good! We did not know what to expect but this is really worth it. Lots to see and there is obvious attention to the details of donated as well. Also recommended: the tour with guide. Nice!

  • With friends visited the prison museum. A nice museum. Very interesting for both old and young. You get a good impression of how people were punished. That was not exactly the ' good old days '. A ride with the ' Boevenbus ' is also very nice. You come here a lot to know about everything that has to do with prisons. Definitely recommended, even for young children.

  • Veenhuizen, a name from the past where service their sentences had to be refusers. This large complex is really worth to visit. A beautiful museum that beautifully reflects the time of prisoners of a few hundred years ago to now. Really very well done and very interesting. Absolutely worth a visit. Do take the time for a few hours.

  • Well documented and presented, although in Dutch only. Unless you are interested in history of Veenhuizen and prisons, it's not recommended. There's an English brochure/guide but it's so-so.
  • Nice museum located in an old prison. The building is surrounded by nature and some nice villages. The nicest part was the optional visit to the 2e prison building that was used until a few years ago.
  • The exhibition gives a fair overview of the Dutch prison system. Telling about veenhuizen itself I found personally what too skinny. What was this place and why and was the approach successful? It remains what underexposed.

  • Local history of the colony, advice to also look in rodepannen prison.
