It is a huge complex with more than 100 national monuments. Well maintained. Starting from 1824 were orphans, foundlings and abandoned children raised to be industrious farm workers. The old compulsory schools were built for beggars and tramps, widows and orphans from the big cities. This was followed by a period with prisoners and patients. To the penitentiary was a village built for prison staff. On the facades of most of the houses are edifying spells. There is much to do and see. BV a PowerStation and a boevenbus. There is a nice shop, you can put some food and drinks. In the village are also options for lunch or dinner. In short an impressive village with a particular history!show original
Tommy Van de Wouwer
Nice museum located in an old prison. The building is surrounded by nature and some nice villages. The nicest part was the optional visit to the 2e prison building that was used until a few years ago.

Jelle C.J. VeraaBeautiful expanded museum, for all age categories have what to do/see/experience. Free with museum card, few euros for the excursions there at both of which are worth (to the ' red-tiled ' & button by bus through veenhuizen).show original
Sylke TippnerSuper informative, we had to go there concerns with toddler and dog, these were unfounded. Super children's and pet friendly! Extra bus tour in German. :)show original
Daniël van LeeuwenWhen you enter the museum you go through a lock, which is the low point of the whole museum. Vague movies and no ability to walk. Away with it! The museum is interesting and fun. Interesting issues, an extensive collection of historical strafwerk and a nice reconstructed courtroom. Don't forget a tour in the ' boevenbus ' to do, because to be honest t have was that for me the highlight of my visit to veenhuizen!show original
