  • Once arrived at the museum, we were very friendly the route in led. There was a lot of information about the origin of the peat colonies but also which played around it. There was also a fine cinema with old movies of yesteryear. A trip back in time. The Exchange exhibition about the phenomenon of camping delivered a stream of memories on. Very nicely done all and that everything in a beautiful building. Really a great location though! As "icing on the cake" we got in the opposite eetcafé on presentation of the ticket of the museum also at discounted price a delicious Cup of coffee. The moment came to take what we had seen by!

  • This is a good opportunity, to much knowledge of economic history of Veendam and surroundings. Never knew that that was so versatile! The Museum exhibits are here and there what jaded, there should do.

  • This museum gives on a particularly clear way the history of the area. Common thread is the economy of the area. Starting with the peat extraction (how could it be otherwise). Also the subsequent emergence and growth of the agriculture (mn potato and corn) and related industries (starch and straw cardboard) are very well explained. What we did not know was that there were also major maritime shipping industry. As bulky even that Lloyds Register of London opened an Office here. Very worth it.

  • Beautiful historiography of the peat colonies. Peat, maritime, rail and ash. Sometimes impressive e exhibitions and inspiring lectures via vanBeresteijn Academy.

  • The museum gives a good picture of the working and living in the Groningen peat colonies in earlier years.

  • A nice museum that takes you on the history of the peat to the shipping carton until the straw. Old ship outside lies with a quay with nostalgic Café and shop. This in a historic hbs school building makes it look well worth it.

  • An intimate museum, where the atmosphere and the beauty of the hard life of the former peat colonies Groningen palpable and visible. Nice style rooms and interesting exhibitions. The museum shop with its many history books is for me the address for original gifts. For children is the game room very nice, with a life-size Winkel van Sinkel, playhouses from grandmother's time and a lot of dress up clothes.
