  • Friday 30 June I went to the Dutch volksbuurtmuseum along with a girl of 21 years who is very low vision. We regularly visit museums, and after a small orientation I wasn't expecting more than otherwise. We were immediately greeted with a explanation of what awaited us at the museum, and in doing so they tried especially to look for opportunities for the visually impaired. And that there were enough. In the cosy pub we could immediately watch a movie in which the audio portion enough up to the imagination. In a room next to it we could listen to three stories in the form of interviews of people from the former people's neighborhoods, where we could choose from several languages: Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Utrecht and English. The first three we could so nice compare. The Madam of the museum brought us to a tight alley, as it looked earlier could have had. They took my task and that of the blind stick perfectly over by all drempeltjes that we came across. The 2000 neighborhood came to life in the alley by the dolls that were at work there. Peeling potatoes, shoes, gossip, you need but to sit down or to give a coin and they started to talk to you. The coins you get with it at the beginning in an old-fashioned than a wallet. Many touch and feel was allowed! But what is more characteristic to a place and time than odors? A great many odors, which you're actually hoping not to encounter more, you could smell it in the museum to the journey in time. I have a lot of museums, but this museum is definitely in my top 5, because I really have been able to experience a piece of history that has made me aware of how my ancestors have lived, and how many developments this country has gone through. This museum is very suitable for people with disabilities a sense and is even open to make it even more accessible for each target group.

  • It is actually a very nice museum for all ages. The idea that you can inserting coins in people is very nice. The only thing I didn't like was the smell. I had to the pet and smelled that smell like so really not tasty. Furthermore, everything was good and I like to come back one more time.
