Dom Tower, Utrecht

4.5
Overlooking charming streets on one side and channels on the other, Dom Tower stands 112.5 m (369 ft) tall, offering unparalleled views of the city. This Gothic structure, which dates back to 1382, is the tallest church tower in the country. Once a part of the largest church in the Netherlands, today it stands alone and challenges you to climb its 465 steps to the top. On the way you'll see 14 giant bells, and the tower's two galleries will reward you with views of Utrecht, Amsterdam, and Rotterdam on clear days. If you wish to have a guided tour, visit the office just below the tower to get information. • Fantastic historical building. To view the inside you need to book and pay a tour at the information centre which takes an hour and is not for the faint hearted. There are alot of stairs to climb (3 levels that you stop to look and catch your breath) and you get within 5m from the top of the tower where there are fantastic views of Utrecht. Once inside the tour guide locks everyone in and takes the tour. You can not get out without the guide unlocking the door again. You are also not permitted to take bags. There are lockers at the information centre to leave your bags. Is worth doing and is a great tourist attraction.
  • This place is well worth a visit! Took my brother here on a day trip from Amsterdam and it's well worth it such a beautiful historic place stunning architecture. The visitor information centre is located next to it so pop in and get some information on what to visit.
  • The square is the tourist heart of the city as everything is located either here or is nearby (walking distance ). There are some good restaurants and bars, also souvenir shops and street food. The cathedral is just next to the tower and is a masterpiece of gothic architecture. Also the beautiful building of the academy is there.
  • The tower is a big excersise but it's definitely worth it. There are four levels to take a break and admire the steps of constructions. Tour guider gave short but good story as introduction. The view is an award of long climbing!
  • Stunning landmark, the area arround has just been refurbished and looks very clean and open, there is a stunning canal by the Dom with a number of excellent restaurants and bars. They have recently opened an underground tour of the Dom partly in English and partly in Dutch. You can also go up the Dom at a charge.
