Binnenhof, The Hague

#4 of 24 in Sightseeing in The Hague
Government Building Tourist Spot
Visit the historic and current center of Dutch political life at Binnenhof. The 13th-century Gothic castle was originally the seat of the counts of Holland, and it later served as the main government building of the Dutch Republic. Today, the castle is home to the upper and lower houses of the parliament, as well as the prime minister's office. The central building of the castle represents the magnificent grand hall, with a throne from which the Dutch monarch delivers the parliament's opening speech. Go on a guided tour of the castle, learn about its history, admire the architecture, and use the opportunity to watch the parliament in session. Occasionally parts of the building may be inaccessible due to important political activities. Put Binnenhof into our The Hague vacation planner and find out what's close by, where to stay, and where to head next.

  • The best square in the Hague, has a beautiful fountain in the Centre and two large doors where the photo is very good

  • We got to the third visit the Knight's Hall and the first Chamber. Good guide with detailed description. Even my 14 year old son loved it. Our advantage is we can visit the Dutch guides, as Dutch. Therefore we do not know how the tape recordings are that you can get into different languages.

  • lovely view of the oldest seat of govt in the netherlands (I'm pretty sure)
  • The political heart of the Netherlands. Nice old buildings with a lot of history, definitely pay a visit.
  • Very nice old budilding where the Dutch government dwells. However I think it would be more interesting with guided tour that is probably why I enjoyed more sitting outside in the park by water.
  • When visiting The Hague stop by and see from where the Netherlands is ruled.Chance to see politicians irl :)
  • Great spot to take a walk and learn the Dutch history on the way. Architecture is gorgeous.
