Kijk-Kubus (Show-Cube), Rotterdam
(2.8/5 based on 900+ reviews on the web)
Designed to resemble an "urban forest" in which the top of each house represents a tree, Kijk-Kubus (Show-Cube) serves today as the display piece for one of Holland's most unorthodox buildings. The brainchild of architect Piet Blom, the housing unit was constructed in 1977 and has since become a recognizable landmark of modern Rotterdam. Visit the museum house and wander through the living quarters, spread out across three stories and complete with angled windows and oddly-shaped floor plans. Despite the unusual visual appearance within, the cube has many ordinary furnishings intended to demonstrate that life within could still be perfectly normal. You can easily access the houses by subway, as they sit above the Blaak station. • Immerse yourself in this set of innovative tilted cube-shaped houses, built in the Netherlands in the 1970s in Rotterdam and in other places of the Netherlands. Short but original visit. There is even a possibility to stay there for a short period.

  • To me that I am interested in architectural photography loved them. A must for those who make such photos. One of these bizarre dwellings is also open for those who have the curiosity to know how is structured internally.

  • The cube houses built at the old harbour are a real feast for the eyes and when you're there in front of or below the cubes you cannot believe what you see and you fail to grasp how we can live in. From afar we remain in awe and curiosity takes over whereby the legs start going alone until you are there. The cube houses are nestled among the old village square and the new area of the markthal and act as a dividing line in one of the most interesting areas of Rotterdam. Are a must in the city.
