  • This is the world famous statue that depicts the gutting of Rotterdam during WW2. It is quite close to the Erasmus bridge and the Maritime Museum. Must see!
  • The pain of destruction is after generations still in the blood of many a rotterdammer. Nevertheless, a great pride from me if I master this work to foreign colleagues and friends. Do not miss work.

  • Everyone from the rest of Netherlands does have of this image, with a high level of symbolism, heard. This symbolism, so aptly displayed by o. Zadkine, deserves a higher rating than "3 stars". Why this appreciation? On the one hand because Square 1940 in my opinion no suitable location is. To be very congested, as a tourist you not, but you have to be there with map/internet really looking for it. The nearby image Cascade (the 8 mtr high oil drums; also nice otherwise, but symbolically far less important for the city) lies more in sight. Letdown I found on every on the plaque to have to read that this image apparently by the Beehive "also affected in the war" to the city. Remember/remember go I think commercialism and hard together. Maybe that's also the justification for the somewhat stuffy place???
