Delfshaven, Rotterdam

(3.9/5 based on 400+ reviews on the web)
Stroll the historical streets, wharves, and canals, and explore the hidden treasures of Delfshaven, the neighborhood that was one the Netherlands' gateways to the New World. Now a part of Rotterdam, the area originally was developed as the port for the nearby city of Delft. It was the center of the Dutch East India Company, the birthplace of Captain Piet Hein, and the port from which the pilgrim fathers departed for Southampton on the Speedwell. Indulge in the laid-back atmosphere, admire the well-preserved buildings, and take a break from sightseeing at one of the numerous pubs and restaurants. The area is the home to a selection of galleries featuring local arts and crafts, as well as Rotterdam's only brewery. For a true Dutch feeling, tour the area by bicycle. • That was our personal highlight when you visit Rotterdam. A port so pretty! In between, a cute cafe where the owners make also cake itself is in a narrow old House. The NY Ceescake is very good!

  • Delfshaven is the oldest part of Rotterdam. Beautiful buildings located directly on the water. Many small but especially nice restaurants. Great for an afternoon stroll.
