Just a short distance from the bustling, modern center of Amsterdam, you can step into a medieval world at Muiderslot. The castle, which dates to the 14th century, was built to protect the important water trade route to Utrecht. Through the subsequent centuries, it served as a private residence and later a prison. One of the castle's most famous owners was 17th-century poet, historian, and playwright Pieter Corneliszoon Hooft. Now a museum, the castle has been restored to its 17th-century atmosphere, with authentic furniture, arms and armor, and examples of everyday life at the time. You can take a guided tour, or visit the castle's website to download a mobile guide app. Using our online itinerary creator, Muiden attractions like Muiderslot can form part of a personalized travel itinerary.

We visited in a cloudy day and it was wonderful visit and stay with the kids. The castle is well organised for a guided visit and the exhibitions are very nice. Bottom line :Recommended  more »

Surrounded by water, has in its interior with bar, souvenir shop, a small garden and a wooded area nearby with tables where you can make a picnic. The interior is very thought to visit with young children, but truck must stay down, since there are stairs. In one of the towers, you raise and walk around the area above, in which you can appreciate the views. In the other area, you get to the tower inside, and in the different rooms there are sculptures, clothing of the time, explanations of the history of the Castle and the people who lived there, as well as different rooms so the kids can enjoy: can play with swords and shields, dressing up as ladies or gentlemen, make a castle with large light material blocks... Highly recommended with children. At the end of the visit, you can stroll through the channel that in Muiden, drink in one of its bars and expect to base a ship and have to move the bridge to make this happens.

May venue tour Netherlands, so most of it and didn't know lent guide written in English, but no such detailed episode was. There was a historical meaning of the maiden lived in the video room. It was easy to understand, and to see subtitles in English and approximate age. From 1609 until 1647 here P historian, poet and playwright. C. the drama is made having lived half to people, such as writer's culture Club, I still saw no say in the Netherlands most famous "Gijsbrecht van Amstel" is born. In the premises of from sink water in low-lying areas, to defend the Amsterdam. I think it's better because on the other side of the site while walking around behind. Seen in the building everyone in sight, rent in I am the one who saw the video of this defence line in the State also the on-site of shield. The water fall from the waterfall built behind the last video was impressive. Tied down plenty of splendid yachts and yacht harbor is next to the Castle.

Beautiful!! It was a little out of the way from Amsterdam, but we found public transport to it. The castle, grounds, and gardens were very well kept. Inside the castle, there were many interactive displays for kids and adults; plus the displays were described in both Dutch and English. There were many stairs and small passages ways and therefore this attraction would only be good for able bodied individuals, but otherwise I would think everyone would enjoy it.

Nice place to see some Dutch history. A beautiful castle with nice tour through the various chambers. Tour was giving in both Dutch and English proficiently. Surrounding area is nice, a little empty as far as cafes and restaurants go. Castle is easily reachable from main highways.

Nice fort, has 2 routes you can follow though the structure. Each room has some information about the room and the castle (and its inhabitants) as a whole. Can highly recommend the movie about Muiderslot, it explains a lot. There seems to be a high focus on children, which can be a downside if you want to look around in peace.
