Just a short distance from the bustling, modern center of Amsterdam, you can step into a medieval world at Muiderslot. The castle, which dates to the 14th century, was built to protect the important water trade route to Utrecht. Through the subsequent centuries, it served as a private residence and later a prison. One of the castle's most famous owners was 17th-century poet, historian, and playwright Pieter Corneliszoon Hooft. Now a museum, the castle has been restored to its 17th-century atmosphere, with authentic furniture, arms and armor, and examples of everyday life at the time. You can take a guided tour, or visit the castle's website to download a mobile guide app. Using our online itinerary creator, Muiden attractions like Muiderslot can form part of a personalized travel itinerary.

  • We went extra to Muiden to visit the Castle. 1 hour parking now cost 2.60. Admission now costs €15.50 for adults and children 12 years of age. D. h. For us 3 times fast would cost€ 50 entry! It was definitely too expensive for us. Therefore, I would like to set the rating so you know what to get for costs to you if you want to visit the Castle. Conclusion. It needs everyone decide for themselves, whether it is prepared to pay the high cost

  • Now this goes back in time. It was very interesting to see how people lived back then and what they had to do to live. A must see!  more »

  • Rode rental bikes from near Museum Amsterdam to castle (20 mi. round trip) Well worth the visit, only wish we had taken our kids here when they were young. Many kids in medieval costumes with swords, so cute. Less crowded as we came in early September. Only issue , couldn't really locate English speaking tour, but enjoyed it all the same.
  • Beautiful castle and lovely piece of history. Strategic location for invasions. Well restored and beautiful gardens. Most of the furniture remains virgin to restoration, so you may not be allowed to sit on the chairs. The guided tour is inclusive and explains most of what u need to know and a little bit more.
  • I'm so excited to visit this castle, i felt like a princess! The signs and explanations are interesting. The garden is also really nice to visit.
  • Really great castle! Interesting tour and the tour lady was quite nice - we were the only English speaking people there and she translated everything to us without rush.Awesome scenery. Visit Muiderslot - you will not regret it.
  • Very special castle close to Amsterdam, set in beautiful surroundings. Entertaining for adults and children. Interesting guided tour recommended.
