Bonnefantenmuseum, Maastricht

3.5
Admire great examples of fine art, old and new, at Bonnefantenmuseum. The museum focuses primarily on periods between 1200 to 1600, but you'll find some modern and contemporary artworks here as well. During your visit, look for the medieval collection that includes intricate works of woodcarver Jan van Steffeswer, the Neutelings collection made of ivory, bronze, and alabaster, and other pieces from the 16th and 17th centuries. The first floor features old masters and an extensive collection of medieval sculptures, while the second floor exhibits contemporary art including American Minimalism, Italian Arte Povera, and conceptual art. • a very extensive and interesting collection of work by Pettibon. I knew some pictures but am never been aware of this artist and his work. Very well done Bonnefanten! Also Optical Glade of Stanley Donwood is impressive to see. Some time for.

  • Filled a wet day looking at a diverse range of exhibitions including ceramic and silver made in Maastricht, Dutch Master's and several modern art exhibitions. Be sure to chill in the top floor 'round ...  more »
  • A beautiful and functional building with a solid standard collection (many religious art and medieval and renaissance paintings) and and lots of space for the temporary Collections. The temporary exhibition of Raymond Pettibon was very impressive. Its modern installations fell rather against.

  • Nice museum within walking distance of the centre. The collection on display was interesting but not especially so at the time we visited. Still they cycle through often enough to warrant a return visit. Staff was friendly and at 12 euros P.p. the entry fee was reasonable. You need cash (1 euro coin) if you want to use the secure lockers to store valuables during your visit
  • Very very cool museum. Student discount. Coat rack. In a cool building on the water's edge. I'd definitely go back.
  • If you're looking for contemporary art or just something nice to do while beeing in Maastricht this is devinatly a good option.
  • Nice museum, sadly a large part of the second floor was closed off for new expositions.
  • Very nice museum, the building is well layed out and pleasant to visit. There is usually something new and interesting to view that makes a visit worthwhile, specially for anyone with a interest in painting the curators deliver.
