Molenmuseum de Valk, Leiden

(4.4/5 based on 320+ reviews on the web)
Visit one of the most symbolic sites in the city at Molenmuseum de Valk, a functioning windmill dating from 1785 and a municipal museum. The museum itself displays items used in the milling process, such as tools and books. Visit the first floor to see the only remaining miller's residence in Holland, where many of the original furnishings remain. Stop to watch the video and learn about the history of grain grinding, then continue upward to the lofts to see more. In addition to learning about the history, you can also buy whole wheat flour ground on site. • Rambles in the university town of Leiden, were visiting the Botanical Garden, just on the other side of the channel when we hit the structure. Also because of the quiet cove of channel we then approached. A really lovely and romantic corner of the city, that alone is really cute. Best wishes to all for a safe journey.

  • Very fun experience in a tall windmill. Detailed description in multiple languages.
  • If you are mechanically minded or just like a little history it's likely going to be an enjoyable experience. At 4 euro it's hard to turn down the opportunity.
  • Informative and educational windmill tour, steep ladder-stairs climb to the top, great views of the city
  • Loved this small museum. It's free on saturdays and totally worth visiting if you ever come to Leiden.
  • Great way to spend an afternoon. Especially if you are a tourist.
