Visit one of the most symbolic sites in the city at Molenmuseum de Valk, a functioning windmill dating from 1785 and a municipal museum. The museum itself displays items used in the milling process, such as tools and books. Visit the first floor to see the only remaining miller's residence in Holland, where many of the original furnishings remain. Stop to watch the video and learn about the history of grain grinding, then continue upward to the lofts to see more. In addition to learning about the history, you can also buy whole wheat flour ground on site. • A very authentic place with great details inside the mill of how the mill looked like years back. Also offers a great view of the city and it's possible to get all the way up.
  • This original windmill gives a good overview of the types, operation, and construction of the Windnühlen. Also learn more about the work and way of life of the mill personnel. Definitely worth seeing!

  • If you are mechanically minded or just like a little history it's likely going to be an enjoyable experience. At 4 euro it's hard to turn down the opportunity.
  • Very fun experience in a tall windmill. Detailed description in multiple languages.
  • Great way to spend an afternoon. Especially if you are a tourist.
  • Our visit to this windmill was both fun and enriching. Learned a lot about windmills - how they are built, how they operate, unique features of windmills. Steps within the mill are steep and not recommended for the elderly though.
  • Loved this small museum. It's free on saturdays and totally worth visiting if you ever come to Leiden.
