Molenmuseum de Valk, Leiden

4.7
Visit one of the most symbolic sites in the city at Molenmuseum de Valk, a functioning windmill dating from 1785 and a municipal museum. The museum itself displays items used in the milling process, such as tools and books. Visit the first floor to see the only remaining miller's residence in Holland, where many of the original furnishings remain. Stop to watch the video and learn about the history of grain grinding, then continue upward to the lofts to see more. In addition to learning about the history, you can also buy whole wheat flour ground on site. Make Molenmuseum de Valk a part of your Leiden vacation plans using our Leiden trip itinerary website .

  • In a prominent place towers high above the Falcon lead out. The mill is now decorated with a fun retrospective on the history of the Netherlands in Leiden and mills. Nice exhibition (especially for children) that you slow the mill by lead up along very steep steps. You can on the halfway circulation outside the mill and you have a beautiful view. Definitely worth a visit (less than an hour)

  • An interesting museum, ideal to visit with a child. For us it was a second museum, after Caribbean studies, an airy way for kids to get used to the phenomenon museum. You are back in time; the employees are also very friendly and helpful

Where to stay in Leiden

A relatively small city with a big student population, Leiden caters to both long- and short-stay visitors making their plans on a limited budget. The historical city center remains the most expensive area, offering rooms in charming old buildings turned into elegant hotels. Just a short walk from this area you can choose from inexpensive lodgings in family-run inns, where cozy rooms come with private parking and free Wi-Fi. For added mobility without the extra cost, look for guesthouses that offer free bikes for use around the city.
