Singer Laren is a museum and concert hall located in the center of Laren, Netherlands. The museum is devoted to presenting and preserving the collection of the American artist William Henry Singer (1868–1943) and his wife Anna.Laren SchoolWilliam Henry Singer was the son of a steel baron of the same name who sold his company Pittsburgh Bessemer Steel Co. to Andrew Carnegie. Against the wishes of his father, young Singer became an artist and after marrying Anna Spencer-Brugh in 1895, he moved to Monhegan, Maine to join the artist colony there. His father was disappointed that he chose art rather than business and insisted he earn his living as an artist. His seascapes sold well, however, and together with the artist Martin Borgord, the couple traveled to Paris where they studied art at the Académie Julian in 1901. Attracted by the artist colony in Laren, made famous by the Dutch painters Jozef Israëls, Anton Mauve, Jacob Maris, Albert Neuhuys, and their pupils such as Matthijs Maris, :nl:Arina Hugenholtz, they decided to settle there. They were not the first foreigners to visit the artist colony in Laren; Max Liebermann, who often spent summers painting in the Netherlands, visited in the company of Isaac Israëls, Josef's son. The Singers knew them and others such as the pointilists Co Breman & Ferdinand Hart Nibbrig. They remained special friends with Martin Borgord, with whom they traveled to Norway. Other close friends were the painters Walter Griffin, Henri Le Sidaner and Jacob & Willem Dooijewaard.Plan your Singer Laren visit and explore what else you can see and do in Laren using our Laren trip maker site .

Singer Laren Reviews
Het Singer Museum stond al lang op mijn 'to do' lijst en het was gelukkig zeer de moeite waard. De "Cuban Art Now" expositie stak met kop en schouders boven alles uit al waren de olifanten ook mooi. H... more »The Singer Museum was already long on my ' to do ' list and it was very worth it. The "Cuban Art Now" exhibition put out head and shoulders above most of the elephants were also beautiful. The museum is not only in a chic setting, it is the self too. Everything looks attractive, and state of the art from to and with the helpful team of staff in suit. All tip top in order so, there will be like on occasion return.
In het Singer is het meest all goed toeven, zo ook nu. Erstwhile de recente nieuwbouw bekeken, met nieuwe zaal. Zag er goed , light en modern uit. De aansluiting bij de oudbouw is niet verkeerde, zeke... more »In the Singer is most all you can relax, such as now. Erstwhile the recent new construction, with new room. Looked good, light and modern. The membership of the old building is not wrong, especially seen from the inner garden, which for the occasion is filled with art elephants. Inside is a special exhibition of modern Cuban painters, nederlndse art impressions from Asia are less impressive. Very quickly is the furniture, that one in the new and unfortunately also in the old restaurant has dropped: cheap bad sitting plastic, where in the old huiskamercafe old fashioned wooden chairs the atmosphere. But there might be more people in. Rarely seen something ugly.
Het Singer Museum is een prachtig museum. Er is een nieuwe vleugel aangebouwd, de entree is fris en modern en het bestaande, oude deel van het gebouw is erg mooi geintegreerd in het geheel. De officie... more »The Singer Museum is a wonderful museum. There is a new wing, the entrance is fresh and modern and the existing, old part of the building is very nicely integrated into the whole. The official opening is yet to take place, but the museum is just to visit. At the moment there is a Cuban Art Now exhibition, with works of young Cuban artists. Furthermore, Singer beautiful work from its own collection. There is a nice museum shop, a beautiful garden with terrace and currently the garden beautiful, cute, funny elephants, much of which also scattered stands in the Centre of Laren. Highly recommended, this museum. Your museum map is useful, there is a small additional cost.
School trip for the kids. Totally impressed both my boys of 4 and 7. Clean, free parking. Good friendly helpful staff.
Not a large museum, but they often exhibit new things. It's also not really big, which I like since I'm not a fan of strawling hours on end. Garden with some exhibits and the food in the cafe is delicious.
Nice museum, a little bit small. Has interesting exhibitions.
The Rodin exhibition is amazing. With the trip to Laren.
